United EMS Workers – AFSCME Local 4911

United EMS Workers-AFSCME Local 4911 is a labor union representing EMS (Emergency Medical Services) workers. Members include Emergency Medical Technicians, paramedics, registered nurses, vehicle service technicians, Emergency Medical Dispatchers, and 911 schedulers.
== History ==

United EMS Workers-AFSCME Local 4911 was chartered in September 2011 under AFSCME (American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees) in order to represent limited and specific EMS workers who are employed by certain private ambulance providers in the United States. United EMS Workers-AFSCME Local 4911 was founded through a partnership between a group of EMS workers from Northern California and New England and AFSCME’s executive leadership body. Self described leaders of these EMS workers were involved in a self described "guerilla civil war〔http://rebelmedic.com/about〕" for control of the National Emergency Medical Services Association (NEMSA). Unable to gain control of NEMSA, these leaders broke away from NEMSA to form United EMS Workers, winning decertification elections against NEMSA〔http://www.bizjournals.com/sacramento/print-edition/2012/11/09/paramedics-join-breakaway-union.html〕 United EMS Workers-AFSCME Local 4911 is a registered labor union with the Office of Labor-Management Standards〔 under the United States Department of Labor, and files mandatory reporting paperwork as an independent local union of AFSCME. United EMS Workers AFSCME Local 4911 is limited only to the decertification of and representation of NEMSA based bargaining units. Other AFSCME locals, per internal agreements, represent EMS workers under the United EMS Workers name; but not specifically under Local 4911.
Unlike most AFSCME Locals, United EMS Workers-AFSCME Local 4911 is not affiliated with an AFSCME district council. Due to its relationship with AFSCME, United EMS Workers-AFSCME Local 4911 is affiliated with the AFL-CIO;〔http://www.afl-cio.org〕 and is also a member of the EMS Labor Alliance,〔http://www.emsla.org〕 the Kaiser Coalition,〔http://www.lmpartnership.org/home〕 and a number of local area labor councils.
